Report if children involved in drugs, parents urged

-

TAWAU: The government, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, parents and schools should go down to the ground to find the causes so that drug smuggling activities and drug abuse can be eliminated completely.

Tawau Drugs Rehabilitation Committee chairman Brigadier General Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah said all parties should have the responsibility to ensure that people, especially the young, would not get involved in drugs.

He said the cooperation of all was needed to combat and reduce the drug cases in Tawau.

Liew said all parents also played a vital role to ensure their children were kept away from drugs.

“Parents should work closely with and report to the enforcement agencies if they found their children were on drugs,” he said during the Tawau Drugs Rehabilitation Committee Hari Raya open house at its premises at Tanjung Batu here on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Tawau Drugs Rehabilitation Committee will continue to carry out a variety of drugs awareness programs, especially in schools throughout this year.

National Anti-drugs Agency state director Bakri Bibi disclosed that the Tawau community awareness on drugs was quite high.

Bakri said there were 355 people in Tawau who were under a twoyear surveillance after going through rehabilitation.

He said a series of special programs in terms of physical and mental development would be planned for them during the surveillance period.

During the ceremony, Liew presented appointment letters to three new committee members, namely Datin Arifa Abdul Jabbar, Madiansah Mohd Samsir Siregar and Vera Voo Muin Yin.
