The 24 tourist guides involved in the protest at Kota Kinabalu Interna onal Airport on July 15 have given their statements to the Tourism and Culture Ministry (Motac) Sabah office.

KOTA KINABALU: The 24 tourist guides involved in the protest at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) on July 15 have given their statements to the Tourism and Culture Ministry (Motac) Sabah office, said its director, Ag Ahmad Zaki Abu Bakar.

However, Ahmad Zaki declined to disclose details as Motac Sabah would be meeting with its headquarters to discuss the next course of action this weekend.

Ahmad Zaki said he would only be able to issue a statement after the meeting with his headquarters.

Motac Sabah has ordered tourist guides involved in the protest to give their statements by July 25.

In a previous press conference, Ahmad Zaki said the tourist guides' licence would be revoked if they were found to be in the wrong.

About 40 protesters showed up at KKIA just past midnight on July 15, claiming that a tour company had engaged illegal tour guides in their operations.

The protest forced two of the three licenced local tourist guides to flee the scene, leaving their big group of tourists stranded at the airport for about two hours.

Motac Sabah has denied the presence of illegal tourist guides operating in Sabah.
