Civil servants should always be loyal to govt of the day – Hajiji

TUARAN: Civil servants should always be loyal to the government of the day, and together face all challenges for the well-being of the people in this country, said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor.

He said the commitment and loyalty of civil servants to the government and the civil service was crucial in determinin­g the success and developmen­t of the country.

"Apart from being loyal to the government, civil servants must also execute their main duty, which is to deliver the best services to the people.

"As civil servants, we need to be far-sighted and not rest on our laurels but rather move one step forward," he said during his speech at a civil servants' appreciati­on ceremony for the Tuaran, Kota Belud and Tamparuli districts here, yesterday.

At the ceremony, 62 government pensioners from the districts of Tuaran, Tamparuli and Kota Belud received certificat­es of appreciati­on and souvenirs from Hajiji.

Also present were State Public Services Department director Datuk Nordin Siman, his deputy, Mohamad Osup, the permanent secretary of the Local Government and Housing Ministry, Datuk Ginun Yangus, and deputy permanent secretary to the Ministry of Rural Developmen­t, Sualim Sanan.

The event also included a ceremony where all government officers present made a corruption­free pledge, followed the signing of the Integrity Pledge document by Nordin and the district officers of Kota Belud, Tuaran and Tamparuli, and witnessed by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission deputy director Hasbilah Mohd Salleh.

Signing on behalf of Kota Belud was district officer Gari Itam while assistant district officers Sofian Nair, and Celestinus Lawanding represente­d Tuaran and Tamparuli respective­ly

There was also an excellent service award ceremony for government department­s in Kota Belud, Tuaran and Tamparuli. Among the winners were the district offices of Kota Belud, Tuaran and Tamparuli as well as the Agricultur­e Department.

The angklung/bamboo band using bamboo instrument­s comprising students of SMK Tamparuli provided entertainm­ent at the event.
