Liew to run for SUCCC presidency

-

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce (SUCCC) life honorary president, Tan Sri Andrew Liew Sui Fatt, yesterday announced his decision to accept the nomination to contest for the president’s post in the annual general meeting (AGM) cum election of the chamber on July 31.

Liew said, he reached the decision with the blessing of the incumbent president, Datuk Seri Panglima Gan Sau Wah, and support from majority of SUCCC member chambers.

Liew said, he had earlier taken over as president of Kinabatangan Chinese Chamber of Commerce recently and is now the chief delegate of the chamber in SUCCC.

In a press statement yesterday, he said, many chambers have recently proposed or expressed their desire to have him succeed the president’s post.

“I wish to thank the member chambers for their trust in me. Gan is a leader I respect very much, which was why I had said that I would only consider accepting the proposal to helm SUCCC if he is not seeking another term.”

Liew added that he has met with the presidents of SUCCC member chambers on Tuesday to discuss the upcoming election, including Beaufort, Penampang, Ranau, Tawau, Sandakan, Tenom, Labuan, Kunak, Kota Kuala Penyu, Nabawan and Kota Belud chambers.

Liew also said that he met with Gan yesterday to discuss the same matter.

“With the blessing from Gan and support from a majority of the member chambers, I have decided to accept the nomination to run for the president’s post.

“I wish to contribute to the well-being of SUCCC and the Chinese community,” he said.
