32 Sabahans for ASEAN PARA Games

KOTA KINABALU: Thirty-two Sabah athletes will be among the national contingent for the ASEAN PARA Games in Kuala Lumpur from September 15 to 23.

President of Sports & Recreation OKU, Sabah (Persatuan Sukan & Rekreasi Orang Kurang Upaya Negeri Sabah - PESRON), Tan Hoon Hwa informed this to Sabah Sports Board chairman Datuk Louis Rampas during a courtesy call here.

Tan said the State Para athletes contingent comprise 28 males and four females who will compete in 10 sports.

Felicia Mikat and Doriah Paulus from athletics, Didin Taresoh for badminton, Rozana Mail for archery as well as Jaison Pengarau and Louis Simun for swimming are the gold medal prospects in the Games.

Sabah’s Para athletes will also be competing in fencing, volleyball, table tennis, football, bicycle and tenpin bowling.

“All these athletes have qualified to represent Malaysia and wish to make Sabah proud where all of them are in high spirits and ready to create history for Sabah and Malaysia as a whole,” he said in a statement to the press yesterday.

Meanwhile, Tan said PESRON will organise a fund raising dinner at the Le Meridien hotel on July 29.

“We wish to sincerely invite generous donors to support these aspiring athletes comprising 32 participan­ts from Sabah, namely 28 males and four females, to participat­e in the ASEAN PARA Games in Kuala Lumpur.

“Tickets are available from the associatio­n office at Taman Seputeh Luyang,” he said while adding the contact numbers are 088-234 416, h/p 012-830 2205, 016830 5121 or fax 088-247 181.

During the courtesy call, Louis has confirmed that he will be attending the fund raising dinner.
