South Australia urged to explore investment opportunities in Sabah

-

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Government has called upon South Australia to look into business and investment opportunities in Sabah.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan said that Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (SEDIA), the one-stop authority for Sabah Development Corridor (SDC), will be able to assist investors to explore investment opportunities in the state.

“The State of Sabah offers tremendous investment opportunities in services, especially tourism, logistics and education; as well as agriculture and resourcebased manufacturing,” said Pairin.

He added that Sabah is strategically located at the heart of Asean, with major air traffic and shipping routes connecting vibrant Asean countries and the wealthy Northeast Asian market.

He said the Sabah State and Malaysian governments were looking to enhance the state’s global air, sea and internet connectivity.

“The Sapangar Bay Container Terminal will be upgraded into a transhipment hub. An aviation hub is being planned. Road connectivity throughout the state and also between states in Borneo, through the Pan Borneo Highway are being implemented,” he added, citing examples of future developments set to take place in Sabah.

Pairin was talking to the delegation from South Australia which comprised South Australia’s Investment and Trade minister, the Honourable Martin HamiltonSmith, Special Envoy for Trade and Investment, Sir Angus Houston and Austrade Malaysia senior trade commissioner, Daniel Havas who were attending the Australia (South Australia) - Malaysia (Sabah) business meeting at the Hyatt Regency near here.

“I believe the participation of the local business community in the meeting today will allow the South Australian delegates to receive first-hand knowledge on business opportunities in Sabah,” he said.

He said Sabah was now experiencing an exciting time and offered to share the exciting period with the South Australian business community through closer trade and investment activities.
