Team Brunei win Cycling Challenge

Team Brunei emerged as champions of the 2nd City Cycling Challenge that was held in Kota Kinabalu yesterday.

KOTA KINABALU: Team Brunei emerged as champions of the 2nd City Cycling Challenge that was held here yesterday.

Mazran Jamin, Md Radzi Tamat, Shahnon Basman and Reduan Yusop won the Road Bike Men's Open event, edging other teams from Kota Kinabalu and other parts of Sabah as well as Labuan.

They completed the 39km route in a time of 51:38.967s to clinch the RM1,000 champion's purse, while Team HHCSCGSB were second (54:05.755s) and Team Giant KK 1 third (54:32.023s).

Team Dawn Riders TDR 3 (comprising Louis Pang, Anslem Tan, Kok On Soon and Yong Chin Keong) clinched the top spot in the Veteran category, while Majlis Belia Perak TTT (Nor Fahmie MD Ismail, Md Hakimi Nor and Md Yusri Shaari) won the Junior road race.

There was also the Mountain Bike Men's Open event which was won by 88 Bikers Team 1 (Jr Stanley Jalip, Nicklos Minol, H Vandee Lanum and Melvin Michael), while Faith Wellness Cycling (Wong Chung Phin, Yan Kah Siong, Foong June Choi and Chong Yun Khon) won the Veteran category.

A total of 46 teams from all over Sabah, Labuan, Brunei and Peninsular Malaysia competed in the event compared to only 26 last year.

It was jointly organised by Kota Kinabalu City Hall, City Hall Cycling Club, Junior Cycling Malaysia and Cycling Associatio­n of Tuaran.

The event was held in conjunctio­n with this year's 17th City Day celebratio­ns.

Permanent secretary to the Youth and Sports Ministry Awang Damit Anak officiated at the flag-off ceremony, while Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai presented the prizes to the winners.
