Puteri Umno urged to address grassroots issues

-

SEMPORNA: Puteri Umno should continue to be the eyes and ears of the party to address grassroots issues, said Sabah Umno Puteri vice chief Zakiah Kalipunya yesterday.

Zakiah said some of the people fear to speak out as they tend to assume that Umno's struggle belongs solely to its politicians while some others are reluctant to intervene in their struggles as they assume that their views will not be accepted.

She added that some also consider their struggle to be purely for worldly gain and described this as a false assumption and stressed that they need to understand their struggle is about responsibility, survival and human nature; with no one excluded.

“This struggle is not mine. It does not belong to a person. It does not belong to a powerful leader. But this struggle is everyone's, it is the responsibility of each of us to pass to the future generations,” Zakiah said when speaking at the Women, Youth and Puteri Umno delegates meeting yesterday launched by Malaysia Umno Youth exco Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.

Zakiah, who is also the Semporna Umno Puteri chief, also advised the younger generation, especially Puteri Umno members, not to be influenced into letting their emotions dominate their rational sense and end up fighting like children, fighting for uncertain positions or attacking others using fake social network accounts.

“We are trained to attack an opponent but it is sad when knowledge is used to attack our friends.

“Now is not the time for loyalty and compassion. There should be no sympathy for the other faction because they are no longer in line with us.

“We are at war, we are talking about winning. Those against us, those who do not want to be with Umno, please leave Barisan. Do not become the enemy within.

“The 14th general election is a very challenging election because the opposition have more parties than us while some of us are divided. That is why 'BN Menang' must be our song,” she said.
