Labuan can regain economic glory by voting for Warisan — Junz

-

LABUAN: The people of Labuan can regain the island’s economic glory of the 1980s by choosing Sabah-based Parti Warisan in the coming 14th general election.

Warisan vice president Junz Wong said the sentiment of Sabahans is now supporting Warisan and it is time for the Labuan residents to back up their support for Sabahbased parties because they are clearly still Sabahans.

“Labuan has been through the glorious era of the Sabah Shipyard industry, Sabah Gas Industries and its glory can be restored with support for Warisan which has plans to invest more in Labuan,” he said.

Junz, who is also Likas assemblyman, made the remarks during a meeting with procommittee members of the Warisan Labuan Branch coordinator here on Saturday.

He insisted that there was enough rationale for Warisan to place a candidate in the Labuan parliamentary constituency in the coming general election if the residents of Labuan supported the party.

According to Junz, the residents of Labuan still feel they are Sabahans and if they have a member of parliament from Warisan, many things can be dealt solely in Kota Kinabalu without referring them to Putrajaya (central government) in Peninsular Malaysia.

Present at the meeting were Salim Abd Rahman, George Elias, Harold Lim and about 50 members of the party’s first branch here.

During the meeting, Junz was told that Labuan residents were facing a lack of employment and business opportunities following the collapse of the oil and gas industry.

In this regard, Warisan members here are hoping the plans being drawn up by the party will help to create more jobs and that more skills training programs in Sabah can be extended to the island.
