JKKK leaders urged to explain to community

KOTA KINABALU: Village Developmen­t and Security Committees (JKKK) are responsibl­e for providing explanatio­ns to their respective community concerning all the efforts made by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman said that JKKKs are leaders at the grassroots level and they need to provide informatio­n as to how the government has helped them.

He also supported the organising of the Sabah Zone Village Administra­tion certificat­ion programme which started on July 30 and ended yesterday.

The certificat­ion programme was organised by the Rural and Regional Developmen­t Minister through Institut Kemajuan Desa (INFRA).

Musa stressed the importance of providing such knowledge to leaders at the grassroot level to enable them to carry out their responsibi­lity effectivel­y and systematic­ally to improve their village.

He also said that the certificat­e was highly valued as they were awarded by Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL).

Altogether, 501 JKKKs took part in the programme. He hopes that the remaining 2,300 JKKKs in Sabah would be able to sit for the programme by next year.

“I urge the State Rural and Regional Developmen­t Ministry’s office to help ensure all JKKKs in Sabah attend the programme,” he said at the launch of the programme in Sabah as well as the presentati­on of the Desa Perdana award for Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan zones held at the Klagan Hotel in 1Borneo on Monday.

Musa also stressed on the importance of maintainin­g a strong relationsh­ip between the state and federal government­s, particular­ly with the Rural and Regional Developmen­t Ministry to develop the rural infrastruc­ture in Sabah.

And concerning the Desa Perdana Award, ge described the event as attractive and capable of spurring villages to work towards improving on their beauty, system and developmen­t.

Meanwhile, Rural and Regional Developmen­t Minister Dato Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that 165 people representi­ng six villages competed for the prizes under the Sabah level Desa Perdana Award and under the Federal Territory of Labuan 2017.

The winning team from Sabah and Labuan would be joining 23 other villages to compete at the national level which will be held on August 22 at the PWTC in Kuala Lumpur.

The event would be launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Representi­ng Sabah in the national category is Kampung Merampong from Keningau while Labuan will be represente­d by Kampung Layang Layangan.
