PBS Sook eyes Tulid seat

-

KENINGAU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Sook Division’s annual general meeting has approved a motion requesting the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership to give the party a chance to contest for the new Tulid state seat in the 14th general election.

The party’s deputy head, Ronny Rusikan, said this would reflect the existence of power sharing concept among component parties representing all Kadazan Dusun Murut (KDM) voters in the Pensiangan parliamentary constituency covering Nabawan, Sook and Tulid.

“This will ensure a bright victory for BN in the three state constituencies (Sook, Tulid and Nabawan) and Pensiangan parliamentary area,” he said.

The AGM was attended by PBS Sook chief Suman Yasambun and representatives of PBS Supreme Council member Datuk Almudin Kaida and was officiated by party vice-president and Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Radin Malleh at a hotel here on Saturday.

The Pensiangan parliamentary area is represented by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Joseph Kurup of PBRS, Sook state constituency by Assistant Minister to Chief Minister Datuk Ellron Alfred Angin of PBRS and Nabawan by Assistant Minister of Infrastructure Development Datuk Bobbey Ahfang Suan of UPKO.

Tulid located in the Sook constituency is among the 13 new seats approved by the Election Commission (EC).

Speaking to The Borneo Post here yesterday, Ronny believed that through the BN’s power sharing concept, all the BN component parties, including PBS, would be given the opportunity to represent the electorate in the next general election.

“I ask that the BN leadership gives PBS a chance to represent Tulid as this party also plays a big role in this new constituency where the party is an alternative option by the voters,” he said.

He said the PBS division in Nabawan was inactive and in the last general election BN won a few votes in Pensiangan, especially Nabawan constituency.

“In Sook we know that PBS is so active and played a big part in ensuring victory for BN in Pensiangan. This proves that grassroots still support PBS in this area.

“For these reasons, the BN leadership shall give PBS a chance to contest in Tulid in the coming election to ensure BN’s victory in Pensiangan and also in Sook, Tulid and Nabawan.

“I believe that with the three BN component parties in Pensiangan, this will give a good fight to opposition in a one-to-one contest,” Ronny said.
