Anti-drug roadshows in schools

KOTA KINABALU: The University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) and Sabah Institute of Arts (SIA) are jointly organizing an antidrug community care project 2017 at selected schools in Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, Lahad Datu and Keningau from August 2 to 9 this year.

The project involves speaking to students about the dangers of drugs by Charis Youth Centre.

The programme aims to create awareness among schoolchil­dren and youngsters about the danger of drugs. It is also a form of corporate social responsibi­lity (CSR) project towards the local community as well as to build educationa­l relationsh­ip between Sabah and Sarawak.

Located in Semenyih, Selangor, Charis Youth Centre has been providing counsellin­g, education and rehabilita­tion since 1986.

In 2002, the centre started going into schools to convey anti-drug message for the benefit of students.

To date, more than 500,000 students have benefitted from knowing the danger of drugs through the roadshows.

The roadshow will be held at SM Ken Hwa and Tenom Tshung Tsin Secondary School on August 2, SJK(C) Lok Yuk Likas, Kota Kinabalu High School, Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School and Kian Kok Middle School in Kota Kinabalu on August 3 and 4, SM Tiong Hua and SM Sung Siew in Sandakan on August 7 and 8, Lahad Datu Middle School and SMK St Dominic on August 9.
