-

TAWAU: The only Information and Communication Technology (ICT) primary school in Tawau, SJK(C) Sin Hwa, is expanding its E-classroom (digital classroom).

Presently the school has 25 Eclassrooms and will upgrade 11 more to make it a total of 36 by the end of this year.

Principal of the 95-year-old school, Chu Voon Fui, said the two-year E-classroom project would cost about RM700,000 with each classroom set up at a cost of RM20,000.

Chu said the implementation of E-classrooms was very relevant with the direction of the Education Ministry in terms of technology usage.

Besides instilling humanity values, the school is also very committed in producing ICT literate pupils in the 21st century through a complete transformation system.

Chu was speaking at a ceremony where the school's 1978 alumni contributed RM20,000 for building digital classrooms yesterday. It was followed by the distribution of 1,000 Jalur Gemilang to the pupils of the school in conjunction with the coming National Day celebration.

The president of the school's 1978 alumni group, Lo Park Hin, disclosed that 60 per cent of the E-classroom project had been completed with each classroom provided with audio and visual teaching facilities.

Meanwhile, the advisor of the school's 1978 alumni group, Koh Kian Leong, urged the pupils to have the spirit of patriotism and love their country.

Koh said there is also a dire need for every Malaysian to unite regardless of race and religion.

He urged the younger generation to appreciate the hard work of the leaders who had strived hard for the country's sovereignty.

Also present was the school board chairman Shim Nyuk Min.
