Many youths unaware of skills training institutions — Hamisa
There are many youths who are not aware of the existence of skills training institutions thus promoting skill courses offered will help them find a better future.
Assistant Minister of Resource Development and Information Technology Datuk Hamisa Samat said she believed there were still many school leavers especially those who did not excel who needed to be told of the existence of skill training institutions.
She said this could be achieved through the Human Resource Development Department’s strategy to disseminate and promote the various programs or skills courses offered through the Tawau district-level Sabah Skills Training Exhibition 2017 which was held yesterday at Dewan Sri Tanjung Sin Onn.
She said the country was working hard to achieve its developed nation status by 2020 with infrastructure and mega development projects being implemented nationwide and which would require many skilled manpower.
Hamisa said the increasing demand for skilled and semiskilled workforce had led them to think about how they could produce and provide the kind of workforce that was relevant to the nation’s development needs especially in its quest to become a developed nation.
In this regard she said the government had set up various skills training institutions to produce skilled and semiskilled workforce.
She said youths should therefore take the opportunity provided by the programs by visiting and obtaining training and work information from each agency at the skills training exhibition.
She said the information would be useful in helping them choose the career and the skills they wanted to follow or the skills that were suitable with their talent and qualifications.
Hamisa also called on parents who came to the program to use the opportunity to get information and identify training opportunities that suited their children’s talents and qualifications.
