Include Hokkien cooking contest in tourism calendar — Yong

KOTA KINABALU: Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Edward Yong Oui Fah hoped that the Hokkien cuisine cooking competition organized by the Federation of Sabah and Labuan Hokkien Associations would be included in the Sabah Tourism Calendar to attract tourists, especially those from China, to sample Hokkien food in the State.

Yong said the cooking competition would not only be an attraction to China tourists, but would also enhance the tourism offerings of the State.

He said this during a courtesy call by the Federation of Sabah and Labuan Hokkien Associations president Datuk Seri Panglima Dr T.C. Goh and his committee here yesterday.

Yong was invited as the guest of honour for the cooking competition featuring Hokkien dishes to be held at Lido Square at noon on September 1, as well as to attend the 43rd anniversary celebration and committee members inauguration ceremony of the federation later that night.

He said the Lido Square had become a special attraction for tourists with the variety of food available at the food court.

“I believe the cooking competition will help promote the tourism in Sabah.

“The government encourages and supports these kinds of events,” he said.

Participants from all over Sabah and Labuan will take part in the cooking competition.
