Teraju’s Superb Series II attracts 800 applications nationwide
KUALA LUMPUR: The Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Startup Scheme (Superb) Series II, a talent search for enterprising Bumiputeras and which offers grants of up to RM500,000 for creative and innovative ideas, has attracted 800 applications nationwide.
Organised by the Bumiputera Agenda Steering Unit (Teraju), the programme drew entries from applicants involved in various sectors, including services, agriculture, manufacturing, new inventions, food and beverage, electronics and electrical, oil, gas and energy.
“The Superb is primarily designed to assist emerging individuals or companies to nurture and transform their discoveries, ideas, or inventions into successful business models,” said Teraju Senior Director, Megat Mohd Yatim Megat Hamid in a statement yesterday.
The grants are one of the largest ever offered to help spur Bumiputera talent to foray into big businesses.
Megat Mohd Yatim said a number of young entrepreneurs had become highly successful after upscaling their ideas, and even entered international export markets, carving out a name for their Malaysian home-grown brands.
He said, to date, 137 young entrepreneurs had received start-up grants of about RM68.5 million since Superb was first rolled out in 2014.
The winners will be selected by the Teraju committee comprising successful entrepreneurs within four to six weeks, and the results announced before the end of the third quarter of this year.
The next Superb Series III will be in September. — Bernama
