25 teams for Sabah Masters 2017 Table Tennis C'ships

KOTA KINABALU: A total of 25 teams including Brunei Darussalam are vying for honours at the Sabah Masters 2017 Table Tennis Championsh­ips at Dewan Sri Putatan in Putatan this weekend.

Brunei, through its associatio­n (BDTTA), features four teams while the rest of the entries are from all over Sabah.

Kota Kinabalu leads with the highest entry of eight teams followed by Ranau and Sandakan with three, Kota Marudu two teams, while Beaufort, Kudat, Papar, Kuala Penyu and Tenom each sent one team.

The four teams from Brunei are BDTTA Bravo, BDTTA Tango, BDTTA Sierra and BDTTA Romeo.

The other teams comprise BT Solar, Haip Loong Sdn Bhd, Inanam Kimia A, Inanam Kimia B, Politeknik Kota Kinabalu, Kelab Senshi TT, Xia Huo Tang and Y2K from Kota Kinabalu, Bee Blade, GP Topspin, RTTA1 (Ranau), De Palm Grill & Steakhouse, Sandakan Table Tennis Associatio­n, Soedc (Sandakan), Marudu Silent Killer A, Marudu Silent Killer B (Kota Marudu), Cuba Cuba Saja (Beaufort), Mengayau Blade (Kudat), Papar Intergener­ation (Papar), KP TT Pimple (Kuala Penyu) and Tenom Kopi (Tenom).

Teams are divided into six groups with five of them having four teams and another featuring five teams.

The competitio­n is a team event and teams will compete in a single round robin league format playing three singles and two doubles matches.

The top two teams from each group will compete in the knock-out stage main event. Teams that fail to make it to the main event final will compete in the consolatio­n final.

“The competitio­n starts at 9am tomorrow (today) and at 8am for the final on Sunday. We invite anyone who is interested in table tennis to come and watch the action and cheer the teams and players,” said Kota Kinabalu Table Tennis Associatio­n chairman Edward Chua, when contacted yesterday.

Former Resources Developmen­t and Informatio­n Technology Minister Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai is expected to officiate at the closing ceremony tomorrow.
