Consumers urged to report profiteering issues to tribunal

-

CONSUMERS are urged to be proactive by taking profiteering issues up with the tribunal, said Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid.

“Be a smart user,” said Jainab. “Make full use of the tribunal and report any instances of profiteering.

“Forms can even be obtained online now, and you don’t need a lawyer to make your case,” she said, reminding the public that maximum claims are allowed up to RM25,000.

Jainab told reporters after yesterday’s State Assembly sitting that a motion had also been made to appoint another tribunal president to undertake consumer claims.

Meanwhile, she advised youths not to be too selective of jobs, saying that the unemployment rate among them contributed to cases of drug abuse.

“Unemployment is one of the main reasons why youths get involved in drugs. They refuse to do labour work and want easy profit.

“We (ministers) often raise issues on education and job opportunities, but all that is meaningless if youths still get involved in drugs.

“We also have the strictest punishments for drug abusers and pushers, yet there are still many convictions,” said Jainab.

She also reminded parents to play their role in monitoring their children, ensuring they do not succumb to substance abuse.
