Kindergarten to hold fund-raising run Oct 28
KENINGAU: Lok Yuk kindergarten here will be holding its Run for Lok Yuk on October 28 to raise funds.
Organizing chairman Tey Kian Soon told the Borneo Post here yesterday, although the date of the event is in October, registration of participants has started since August 1 and will continue till October 14.
He said the run is divided into five categories namely an eightkilometer category for men and women open under 40 years old, veteran men and women open above 41 years old as well as a three-kilometer Family Fun Run category, including children aged three years and above.
“Registration of participants is on from August 1 until the closing date on October 14 through the form or online. During registration, participants will be supplied with a bag, Tshirt and bib.
“The entrance fee for each participant is RM60 for those aged 13 years and above and RM30 for participants aged between three years and 12 years old,” he said.
Tey said runners will receive medals, certificates and lucky draw prizes for their participation and winners will receive cash prizes and hampers.
He said the flag-off and finishing line of the run was at the Keningau Sports Complex and the organizers are targeting 2,000 participants and if they were to meet the target or exceed it, it would be the biggest run target in the district.
According to him, the event is collaborated with the District Office, the district Ministry of Youth and Sports Office and Keningau Division of the Federal Youth and Sports Office.
The committee members of the Run For Lok Yuk apaid a courtesy call to District Officer Haji Yusop Haji Osman at the District Office here recently.
At the meeting, Lok Yuk Kindergarten Management Chairman Ronny Hiew said that the program was held in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of Lok Yuk Kindergarten Keningau.
“The purpose of this event is to raise education funds for the education development of this kindergarten as well as injecting sports enthusiasm among kindergarten pupils and local communities.
“In addition, this run is also to introduce this district which will be holding the Visit Keningau Year 2018,” he added.
Ronny said Lok Yuk Kindergarten located at Jalan Lingkudau here started operating in 1997.
He said the building has six classrooms, 13 teachers and 163 students comprising 65 Chinese and 98 Bumiputera.
Meanwhile, Yusop said he would support the program which he believes will also promote Keningau as one of the tourist destinations, especially in conjunction with Visit Keningau Year 2018.
