Litter free status for 16 S’kan premises

SANDAKAN: The Sandakan Municipal Council (SMC) appreciate­d the efforts of all government agencies, schools and higher learning institutio­ns in the district in ensuring their premises and surroundin­g areas are clean and beautiful.

SMC deputy president Haji Mohd Hamsan Awang Supain said it was undeniable that maintainin­g the premises free from litter was a tough and challengin­g task.

“However, it can be achieved with the cooperatio­n of all staff, thus making cleanlines­s a practice and culture.

“Therefore, we hope that this effort would be continuous­ly practised and all government premises and schools should be commited in doing so,” he said at the presentati­on of free-litter premises appreciati­on letter to 16 recipients at the SMC conference hall yesterday.

Among the recipients were Sekolah Menengah St Mary, Sekolah Kebangsaan St Monica, Inland Revenue Board Malaysia (Sandakan branch), Customs Malaysia, HSBC Bank, Public Bank, Prima Square, Sandakan Hotel, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (Sandakan branch), SM Yu Yuan, SJKC Chi Hwa, SMJK Tiong Hua, SK Merpati, SMK Tinusa, SMK Gum-Gum and SMK Elopura, Sandakan.

Hamsan also urged the public here to emulate the attitude of people in developing countries that have higher sense of cleanlines­s awareness.

This includes doing recycling and isolating waste apart from refraining ourselves from littering.
