Assets used during Tanduo ‘war’ on display in KK

KOTA KINABALU: Members of the public were given a show seldom exhibited by the Malaysian Armed Forces yesterday.

Exhibits showcasing the Malaysian Armed Forces assets that were used during the Lahad Datu “conflict” in Tanduo took place and members of the public were able to view, up close, assets such as the GWagon (AGL), G-Wagon (HMG), GK M1 (AGL), GK M1 (HMG), meal on Wheel (Food Truck) as well as site kitchen.

The exhibits were made available between 9am and 5pm and attracted both local and foreign visitors.

Also an attraction was the career promotion booth that invited school leavers and graduates to join the army.

Mohd Razzie, 18, were among the job applicants who went to the event in search of opportunit­ies to join the Royal Malaysian Air Force.

“I would like the opportunit­y to serve my country,” he said.

He added that his uncle was with the Royal Malaysian Air Force and has encouraged him to apply for jobs there.

“I also have the blessings from my parents. They are supportive of my choice,” he said.

Alester Roy Jeliu, 19, also expressed his love for the country and said: “There is nothing to fear in serving the country.”

He added that it had been his ambition to join the Royal Malaysian Air Force and that he also has an uncle in the force who encouraged him to try out his luck.

“I completed my Form Six last year and hope to be able to join the force,” he said.

In addition, there was also a blood donation drive organised by the Health Ministry and health checks as well as dentistry services offered at the event.

The Borneo Post was told that the Royal Malaysian Army has its own team of medical profession­als and that they provided medical services to their personnel.

Meanwhile, at the Padang Merdeka itself, patrons were entertaine­d by musicians comprising members of the Royal Malaysian Army orchestra.

Later in the evening, an award march of the Battle Honour Daulat February 2013 took place. A total of 230 officers and 1,880 personnel took part in the march.
