Prisoner jailed six more months for cursing, threatening magistrate

KUALA LUMPUR: For losing his head and cursing and threatening a magistrate, a prisoner serving time for injuring an individual was slapped an additional six months jail by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Magistrate Mahyudin Mohmad Som slapped the punishment on S.Thaneskumar, 23, after the accused changed his plea to guilty.

The court ordered the jail sentence to run from the date of his arrest on July 7.

Thaneskumar was charged with intimidating Magistrate Adira Adnan, 33, saying that he would kill the latter and mouthed foul language during proceedings at Criminal Magistrate’s Court 1, Jalan Duta here between 2pm and 3 pm on May 15.

He was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code which provides for maximum imprisonment of two years or fine or both, if convicted.

In mitigation, Thaneskumar, who was unrepresented, pleaded for leniency saying that he could not control his emotions and regretted his actions.

However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Farah Adilah Noordin urged the court to mete out an appropriate sentence saying the accused’s actions were in contempt-of-court.

According to the facts, Adira, the complainant, who was the sitting magistrate hearing mention of a case involving Thaneskumar under Section 51 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs, was cursed and threatened with death by the accused.

When the charge was read out to him, the accused who had pleaded guilty suddenly got angry and started cursing the magistrate and threatened that he would kill her. - Bernama
