Perak supports move to expel students for bullying

TAIPING: Perak state government fully supports the move to expel bullying students as the problem was a cause for concern.

State Education, Science, Environment and Green Technology Committee charman Datuk Dr Muhammad Amin Zakaria said although there were no reports involving bullying in the state, the expulsion of bullying students was timely to address the problem from becoming widespread.

“Although the existing regulations for bullying in school are already there, the incident still occurs among students. Most bullying happens in the school area and the matter can be avoided if the teacher is with the students,” he said.

He said this at a press conference after officiating at the Larut Matang and Selama (LMS) District Education Office’s CorruptionFree Pledge (IBR) involving 200 principals and headmasters at the district education office’s square yesterday.

He said this when commenting on the suggestion by Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid on Thursday that most severe punishment should be imposed on any individual who was found to be involved in bullying activities in schools or colleges to prevent such acts from recurring in the future.

Mahdzir said his ministry was disappointed and sad that bullying still occurred despite various efforts being made to address the problem and he was in agreement that the bullying student should be expelled even though the existing rules disallowed such action from being implemented. - Bernama
