Maxwin Chiew wins Sutera Harbour golf tourney
KOTA KINABALU: Maxwin Chiew was crowned the champion in the Sutera Harbour Bi-Monthly (August) Medal Golf Tournament that ended at the Sutera Harbour Golf and Country Club here yesterday.
A three-over 75 score saw the young and talented golfer edged 97 challengers to the Men’s Gross title.
Korean Park Young Sik was second with 79 followed by another Korean golfer Cho Han Jin in third place with 80.
Korean-born golfers dominated the Ladies Gross category with Song Ae Jeong finishing top after edging Kim Kyung Ki on count back (OCB) after the duo played identical 87s. Chiew I Youn was third with 88.
In the Nett section, John Ericson played three-under 69 to take the Medal A while Lee Sang Don and Youn Suil settled for second and third placing with their scores of 70 and 71 respectively.
The top three in the Medal B were Dato’ Haji Yusop Ag. Besar (69 nett), Wonh Moy (70 nett) and Khairy Syazwan (73 nett).
Korean-born golfer Lee Sung Woong posted five-under 67 nett to top Medal C followed by Bruce Kang with 68 nett and John Lim with 71 nett.
There were more titles for Korean golfers when Shin Sung Ja took the Ladies Nett title with 70 while Lim Yee Fung was second with 73 nett and Kwan Pek Sin in third place with 74 nett.
In the Senior category, Yang Yung Gil of Korea topped with 66 nett and Lee Il Ku was second after beating Jimmy Liew via OCB with both posting 72 nett.
As for the Invitees section, Jonathan Tan won with 70 nett score followed by Desmond Qwek with 72 nett and Fauzi Awang Tahir with 74 nett.
The prizes were jointly presented by Dato’ Haji Yusof Ag. Besar, Sabah Golf Association (SGA) vice president Maximillian Jr Boijol, SGA manager Richard Stidi and the Korean golfers coordinator Park Young Sik.
