MACC arrests ex-Felda chairman
PUTRAJAYA: Former Felda chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission here yesterday to assist in the investigations into several cases, said MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Azam Baki.
He said Mohd Isa was arrested at the MACC headquarters here at about 4.30 pm.
“I do not want to elaborate on his arrest. He was arrested to assist in the MACC investigations into several cases,” he said to Bernama when contacted.
Mohd Isa had gone to the MACC headquarters here at 2.40 pm with two of his lawyers but only he was allowed to enter the office, most likely to assist in the investigations into the purchase of two hotels by Felda Investment Corporation (FIC) in London and Kuching.
He acknowledged the reporters waiting at the MACC headquarters before entering the building.
Last month, the MACC reportedly opened an investigation into the FIC purchase of a hotel in Kensington, London, between 2013 and 2015 at a price that is believed to be much higher than the original, thus causing the Felda subsidiary to suffer millions of ringgit in losses.
FIC reportedly bought the four-star hotel for STG60 million (about RM330 million) on Dec 16, 2014.
It was reported that the MACC also opened an investigation into the FIC purchase of a hotel in Kuching after getting information while investigating the purchase of the hotel in Kensington. – Bernama
