KOTA KINABALU: Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai will evoke the MKN Arahan 20 (National Security Council Directive No. 20) as a preventive measure to address issues that may crop up in the next few days where heavy rain is predicted.

He said MKN Arahan 20 would allow City Hall and other authorities under the natural disaster committee response team to enter a premises without permission of owners to solve problems caused by the rain and flood.

Yeo was speaking to reporters after chairing the committee meeting yesterday attended by Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Edward Yong Oui Fah who is also the minister in charge of City Hall, Community Service and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid as well as government agencies and departments, including the police and Fire and Rescue Services Department.

The mayor said that he would be evoking the MKN Arahan 20 to enable City Hall and the Fire and Rescue Services Department to do some clearing work on the land opposite City Mall here.

“We will be trimming the trees and canopy on top of the retaining wall there,” he said, adding that the retaining wall is safe.

Yeo expressed hope that landowners could understand the situation where the MKN Arahan 20 was evoked, especially in times of emergency.

The Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) yesterday activated its Natural Disaster Operations Room following flash floods which hit several parts of the city following continuous rain for the past five days.

Director of the DBKK Complaints and Public Relations Syron Tunggolou said the operations room was opened at 5pm yesterday to monitor the situation during the flash floods.

“Staff of various departments are in a state of preparedness,” he said yesterday.

Members of the public can call the DBKK hotline at 088-210 011 or through the WhatsApp application at number 010-222 2000 for information on the flash floods.
