No evacuation requests — Fire and Rescue Dept

KOTA KINABALU: The Fire and Rescue Department has not received any evacuation requests following five days of continuous heavy rains which caused flash floods at several areas in Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Papar and Kota Belud.

State Fire and Rescue Department operation chief Khatizah Rahaban said among the areas in Kota Kinabalu that were badly affected were Jalan Tuaran Bypass, Bandar Sierra right up to Kampung Binaung Baru, Kampung Tebobon and Taman Putrajaya.

“Taman Seri Warisan, Kampung Kitobu, Jalan Kampung Pomotodon in Inanam, Kampung Mansiang, Kampung Rampayan and Jalan Tuaran Lama that connect Manggatal Township right up to Pulutan roundabout, including Jalan Kampung Timbok, were badly affected by flash floods with water rising up to 0.2 and 0.6 meter,” she said yesterday.

Khatizah said that the areas in Penampang that had been affected by flash floods were villages of Buliga, Kolopis, Maang, Kibabaig, Napasan, Kiranau, Taman Penampang, Sugud, Sindanan, SRJK Yue Min, Penampang Police Station, Penampang District Office, Post Office, Jalan Sugud, Dongonggon, Penampang Proper and several other areas.

Forty-one people were evacuated from their home and taking shelter at the Tun Said Community Hall, while some affected families put up with relatives, she said.

“Eighty-three families from Kampung Ejok, Gunding, Linau, Bobot and SK Timbang have also been affected by flash floods, but no evacuation orders were issued as the water level in those area was still under control,” she said, adding that the villages were only accessible to big and heavy vehicles.
