Let workers go home earlier — Jainab

KOTA KINABALU: Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid has urged the people to be extra careful and take precautions in view of the rainy season which has resulted in several places being flooded.

Speaking at the launch of the Fit Dance Malaysia programme held at Kompleks RTM near here yesterday, Jainab said the people need to be cautious with electricity and also called on parents to be vigilant in ensuring their children would not go out to play in the water and rain.

She also urged employers to allow their workers to go home earlier if the weather becomes gloomy and starts to rain to avoid unwanted incidents such as accidents due to the flood.

“When it floods, who can differentiate between the drain and the road?” she said citing an example of an accident that could occur due to flood.

Jainab also said that she spent a sleepless night on Monday as her team was involved in an effort to help people within her constituency who were affected by the flood.

She reminded that flood is an environmental issue and could not be predicted.

She added that they also succeeded in getting the schoolchildren out of SK Darau when they were trapped due to rising flood water.

The minister also commended all those involved in the community service.

On the Fit Dance programme, she stressed the importance of keeping healthy and urged youths in Sabah to take part in the programme.

She added that the programme was also a good venue to release their stress and tension.

Eighty dancers were involved in the launch yesterday.
