Jealous man detained for stabbing girlfriend

-

KOTA KINABALU: Police have detained a foreign man for stabbing his girlfriend with a knife along Kolej Kesihatan Bersekutu junction, Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen in Luyang, here on Sunday.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said members of the public apprehended the suspect after he stabbed his 16-yearold girlfriend, also a foreigner, following an argument between the couple around 3.20pm on August 13.

Police were informed that a woman was attacked and stabbed with a knife by a man along the Kolej Kesihatan Bersekutu junction, he said.

He said police who arrived at the scene were told that the victim, a cook at a stall in Bukit Padang, had been taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital II (QEH II) for treatment by her employer where she received five stitches on the back of her head and three stitches on the neck.

“Police detained the suspect at the scene when he was apprehended by members of the public following the incident,” said Chandra yesterday, adding that a 9.5-inch knife was also recovered at the scene.

He said initial police investigation believed the suspect was under the influence of alcohol and the motive was due to jealousy.

“Police have arrested the suspect, a 20-year-old foreign man, for investigation under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.

“Police investigation also revealed that both the victim and the suspect do not have any valid documents and we will also charge them under the Immigration Act 959,” said Chandra, adding that the victim’s 35-year-old employer would also be charged under the Immigration Act for hiring undocumented employee.
