Ex-Anti-Drug Agency personnel claims trial to bribery charges
KUALA LUMPUR: A former National AntiDrug Agency (AADK) personnel was charged in the Sessions Court here yesterday with three counts of bribery, involving RM3,000, as an inducement to not take action on drug test results obtained two years ago.
However, Amzar Wahid, 29, pleaded not guilty to all the charges before judge Madihah Harullah.
On the first and second count, Amzar, who has two children, was alleged to have solicited bribes of RM1,500 each from Shahrulnizam Ramli and Abdul Rashid Jaafar as an inducement to stop him from sending their urine samples to the Cure and Care Rehabilitation Centre (CCRC) for analysis.
Both the offences were allegedly committed at Level 5 of Brickfield AADK office, Rumah Persekutuan, Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin, here, at 2 pm, on Oct 5, 2015.
The charge, under Section 16(a) (B) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, provides an imprisonment for up to 20 years and a fine of five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, or whichever is higher, if found guilty.
Amzar was also charged with accepting RM3,000 from Abdul Rashid and Shahrulnizam for the purpose at a car park at Block 204, Sri Suajaya Condominium, Jalan Sentul Pasar, here, at 3.30 pm, on Jan 7, 2016 .
ACC Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Syakimah Ibrahim, who prosecuted, offered bail of RM20,000 with one surety for all charges.
Lawyer ,Kamarul Zaman Abdul Rahman, representing Amzar, in requesting for a lower bail, said his client, who has two children and a wife who is a civil servant, had been unemployed since last January and would be graduating from a public university this October.
The court then set bail at RM15,000 with one surety and also ordered Amzar to report himself at the nearest police station on the first week of every month. The court set Sept 15 for mention. Bernama
