Listening to music worthwhile pastime — Masidi
KOTA KINABALU: Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said listening to music, especially songs and made popular by legendary singers is a worthwhile pastime for people, particularly the elders.
“I love listening to these kind of music cause it’s entertaining apart from reminding me of my younger days,” Masidi told the organisers of the ‘Tribute to Elvis Presely Concert’ led by Ron Ganesegaran during a courtesy call at the latter’s office on Monday.
The minister said he would find time to attend the two-hour concert featuring Sabahan Elvis Presley impersonator Rayner Hendry Pailus at Hard Rock Cafe on Friday.
Rayner was named by the Elvis Talented Artist as winner in the Elvis Voice competition held in Taxas, USA last May.
Ron said the event is designed to pay tribute to Elvis on the occasion of his 40th death anniversary.
He said Rayner will be belting out Elvis’ songs to entertain the guests.
“Rayner will also be singing a couple of Elvis’ favourite songs translated in Kadazan dialect,” he said, adding that there will also be Elvis’ guests artist impersonators performing during the evening event.
Ron said Elvis died in August 16, 1977 and the world still remembers him and will never be forgotten.
He said the evening party is jointly organised by Sri Pelancongan Sabah, Malaysian Association of Tours and Travel Agents (MATTA) Sabah Chapter, Sabah Cultural Board and Hard Rock Cafe management in Kota Kinabalu.
“We will be donating a portion of the collection during the night to a charity institution as part of our social obligation to the society .. let’s support this simple but unique noble charity projects,” Ron said.
