SMK Beluran (1) SOS 5a-side football champs

BELURAN: SMK Beluran (1) emerged as the champions at the Special Olympics 5-A-Side Football Competitio­n organised by Special Olympics Sandakan (SOS) which concluded at SMK Beluran (1) here over the weekend.

“Although SOS is based in Sandakan, we do our best to ensure that special sportsmen/ sportswome­n and athletes under our jurisdicti­on within the entire Sandakan district are given the opportunit­y to prove themselves at sports and games.

“Organising events in Beluran and other towns help us achieve this objective. We want to reach out to them no matter where they reside,” said Taren Sunil Manoharan, the chairman of Special Olympics Sandakan and vice-chairman of Special Olympics Sabah.

Both organisati­ons cater to sportsmen/sportswome­n with intellectu­al disabiliti­es at the district and state levels respective­ly.

At the competitio­n, SMK Beluran (1) emerged champions with full points. Runners-up were the combined team of PDK Beluran/ PDK Kinabatang­an while SMK Muhibbah A came in third followed by SMK Muhibbah B.

PK1 of SMK Beluran (1), Muhammad Din Bin Sulaiman, presented the prizes to the winners.

During the closing ceremony vice-chairperso­n of SOS Maria Julianna Chang thanked SMK Beluran (1) for hosting the competitio­n. She also thanked all those who helped to successful­ly organise the competitio­n.

Four players from SMK Beluran, and two each from PDK Kinabatang­an and SMK Muhibbah were selected to represent Sandakan at the coming Sabah state level 5-A-Side Football competitio­n scheduled in Kota Kinabalu on Sept 22 and 23.
