Salman Khan pays price for on-screen romance with Chinese actress Zhu Zhu

-

MUMBAI: Salman Khan is paying a heavy price for his onscreen romance with Chinese actress Zhu Zhu in Tubelight.

The huge flop at the box office meant he had to return 50 per cent of the loss to distributors.

India and China are currently deadlocked in a military standoff.

That explains the unexpected flop for a superstar like Salman.

For Salman, it has been a slap in the face because just weeks ago, his wrestling movie Dangal had actually made a killing at the box office in China.

For Tubelight, Salman had to compensate distributors to the tune 320 million rupees (RM22 million).

Salman’s father was a major investor in the movie, and it has been an embarrassing climbdown.

Sources disclosed that Salman’s family had taken this decision together that they would return the amount to distributors up to 50 per cent. Apart from this, they will do whatever is best for the distributors’ interests.

In response to Salman’s gesture, producer-director Subhash Ghai tweeted: “Appreciate @ BeingSalmanKhan great gesture of refunding to distributors. It reminds me when we refunded in 1995 for losses in TRIMURTI.”

Trimurti, released in 1995 and directed by the late Mukul Anand and which Ghai had produced, was touted to be a huge project since it was a multistarrer headlined by the likes of Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor and Shah Rukh Khan.

But the movie flopped.
