New school building for Sandakan school

SANDAKAN: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman said the state government encouraged cooperation and support from private and nongovernmental organizations in providing and building school facilities.

Musa said the construction of a new school building for Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan (SRK) Sung Siew here had proven the importance of cooperation between the government and the private sector in driving development and education in Sabah.

“The state government is certainly aware of the importance of providing quality education to children as a foundation for human capital development that is capable of producing first-class upstream generation.

“The government also recognizes that the future success of the children depends on the early education they receive during childhood.

“In view of this, cooperation and support from the private and non-governmental organizations are encouraged to further bring about educational facilities,” he said in his speech for the opening ceremony of SRK Sung Siew’s supplementary building here yesterday.

His text of speech was read by Deputy Chief Minister cum Industrial Development Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Raymond Tan Shu Kiah.

Also present were Elopura assemblyman Datuk Au Kam Wah, Karamunting assemblyman Datuk Charles O Pang, Sung Siew School Management Board chairman Datuk Chu Vui Fai, president of the Basel Malaysia Church, Vun Soon Chong and Sandakan Municipal Council president Datuk James Wong.

Commenting further, Musa said the education system needed a change in line with current needs and sincerity and desire to pursue more achievement.

In addition, he said preparations should also be made to face the increasingly challenging obstacles.

“Undoubtedly the education system actually requires us to renew ourselves with new knowledge and determination at all times.

“As for the government, we are not only providing adequate infrastructure, but also promoting world-class quality education through the initiatives set in the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025.

“I would like to emphasize that the change brought by the government is unlikely to happen overnight. There is still much more to do, but what challenges will come to pass, I am convinced by the unwavering support of all the people, including the Chinese,” he added.

He said the construction of the additional building of SRK Sung Siew was aimed at meeting the needs for learning space when the school runs one session soon.

The additional building was built at a cost of RM2.1 million. However, the school still needs about half a million more for the provision of teaching and learning facilities.
