Police emerge overall champion in world karate competitio­n

KOTA KINABALU: It was a great achievemen­t for Sergeant Major Razmi bin Omar and his wife Sergeant Tengku Fazlina binti Tengku Ibrahim when they both bagged five out of 18 medals in the karate competitio­n at the recent World Police and Fire Games (WPFG) 2017 held at the Los Angeles Convention Centre in California, USA on August 14.

Both Razmi and Tengku Fazlina, who are attached to the Kota Kinabalu police contingent (IPD KK), took home the bronze medal in the Men’s Black Belt group Kumite, and two gold medals in the Women’s group Kata and Women’s group Kumite respective­ly.

Tengku Fazlina also won two silver medals in the Women’s Individual Black Belt Kata and Women’s Individual Black Belt Kumite.

Nine police officers also made the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) proud by winning 13 medals in the event.

The gold medallists were Constable Fatin Nabila bin Abdullah in the Women’s Kyu Belt Individual Kata and Women’s Kyu Belt under 60kg Individual Kumite, Constable Nurhayati binti Mohd Junaidi in the Women’s Kyu Belt above 60kg Individual Kumite, Constable Norhayati binti Yohilim in the Women’s Kyu Belt under 53 kg Individual Kumite, Corporal Charles Patrick in the Men’s Black Belt under 65kg Individual Kumite, Corporal Muhammad Adry Shah bin Abdullah in the Men’s Black Belt under 70kg Individual Kumite, and Sergeant Joachim, Corporal Charles and Corporal Muhammad Adry in the Men’s group Kata.

Nurhayati and Muhammad Adry also won a silver medal each in the Women’s Kyu Belt 18+ Individual Kata and Men’s Black Belt 35+ Individual Kata respective­ly.

Charles, Corporal Hazwani binti Hamzah, Corporal Faizal Rohizan bin Assan and Sergeant Joachim Francis Ubi each won a bronze medal in their respective individual events in the Men’s Black Belt 35 Kata, Women’s Kyu Belt 30+ Kumite, Men’s Black Belt 35- Kumite and Men’s 85kg Kumite respective­ly.

Joachim, Faizal, Charles and Muhammad Adry also won a bronze medal together with Razmi in the Men’s Black Belt group Kumite.

The Royal Malaysian Police Karate team emerged overall champion with 18 medals.
