4,753 jobs offered at career program
KOTA KINABALU: A total of 4,753 jobs are being offered to suitable candidates at the career programme, ‘Kembara Kerjaya Kebangsaan 2.0 2017 (Train Ride Sabah)’ which began yesterday until August 21.
Human Resources Ministry Secretary-General, Dato Sri Adenan Ab Rahman said that the jobs were offered by 84 employers and eight training providers participating in the four-day programme which was launched at the Tanjung Aru Railway Station, near here yesterday.
Today (Aug 19), the event will be held at the Dewan Pa’ Musa Beaufort while tomorrow (Aug 20), it will be held at the Dewan Datuk Seri Panglima Antamon in Tenom. On August 21, the event will be held at the Sipitang Multipurpose Hall.
The employers involved in the programme are from various sectors, including the oil and gas, services, manufacturing, retail and others, he said.
Adenan, who was represented by his deputy Secretary-General Dato Mohamed Elias Abu Bakar urged job seekers in Sabah to utilise the opportunity made available to them through the programme.
He added that the programme would also benefit members from the vulnerable group such as people with disability as there were also employers who wanted to employ those in the category.
In his speech, he also commended the employers involved, stating that they were helping the reduce the number of unemployed among youths in Sabah and helping to raise their standard of living.
“This will help the economy to develop,” he said.
He also reminded employers to provide suitable benefits, in line with the labour legislation that was enforced.
At the same time, he also said that the government has introduced the minimum wage in 2016 and advised employers to adhere to the regulation which required them to pay at least the minimum wage of RM920 per month to their workers.
Employers were also encouraged to pay in accordance to the qualifications and skills of their workers, he said. Adenan also mentioned the 1Malaysia Outplacement Centre (1MOC) which was established by the Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Berhad (PSMB) targeting Malaysians who have been laid off from work.
The aim of the centre was to provide assistance in the form of counselling and training to prepare them for their future careers, he said.
Last year, a total of 1,604 people who have been laid off registered with the 1MOC portal, out of which 810 have been offered new jobs.
A total of 769 were given training and 435 people with skills were being assisted to attain jobs offered in the market, he said.
Also present at the event was Sabah Labour Department deputy director, Muhamad Fauzi Abdul Ghani.
