Aid for 120 students in Nabawan

KENINGAU: One hundred and twenty students from SK Dalit in Sook have been selected to receive the Poor Student Trust Fund Assistance (KWAPM) for this year.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Joseph Kurup said the aid was given to students of low-income families.

Kurup said the setting up of the fund was in line with the implementa­tion of the Compulsory Education Policy effective January 2003 under Section 29A of the Education Act 1996 (Act 550) to ease the burden of parents in sending their seven-year-old children to school.

He also told the parents on importance of education in shaping the life children into useful human capital and develop themselves to face future challenges.

“In the struggle of Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS), it emphasises education as a key agenda aimed at seeing our children succeed and achieve excellent performanc­e,” he said when offciating at KWAPM presentati­on at SK Dalit Here yesterday.

Therefore, he said parents should encourage and support their children in their studies.

He is proud to see the excellent performanc­e of SMK Sook, SMK Tulid and SMK Nabawan for two consecutiv­e years.

Also present at the event were PBRS deputy president Arthur Joseph Kurup, PBRS Youth chief Matusin Bowie, the school headmaster Mahat Satimin and Parent and Teacher Associatio­n (PTA) chairman Edewen Angkitol, among others.

Meanwhile in that afternoon, Kurup declared open two suspension bridges in Kampung Sanang, costing RM125,000.

He said with this bridge, the children would be able to go to schools while the villagers would be able to market their agricultur­al products to town.

Kurup also advised the villagers to live in unison and in a spirit of brotherhoo­d.

He also requested the villagers to continue supporting the Barisan Nasional (BN) government for more developmen­ts to the rural community.
