Japanese educators call on mayor

KOTA KINABALU: City mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai received a courtesy call from a delegation of Japanese educators recently.

He welcomed the delegation of six people who are visiting the city for five days at the invitation of Sabah’s To Earth With Love (TEWL) committee headed by its Chairman Deric Chiew Chin Chung.

The Mayor was briefed that the objectives of the visit are to learn and share on the progress of the youth exchange program that started since 2011.

According to Kawanishi Internatio­nal Relations Associatio­n Chief Executive Officer, Richard Chin, who is also the translator for the group, the education department of Kawanishi is satisfied and confident to see the progress of the programme over the years and they intend to expand the exchange programme to the next level.

TEWL secretary Margaret Chin also informed Yeo about the progress of the yearly school’s sustainabl­e garden competitio­n organized by TEWL, which is also one of the areas of interest exposed to the Kawanishi exchange students.

Also present were Aoyama Yuji, Tateyama Primary School principal, Taira Chiaki, Tamaniwa Primary School assistant principal, Takahashi Kayoko, Otsuka Primary School teacher, Tadokoro Mamoru, Yamagata Daini Primary School teacher, Takahashi Shunsuke, university student, TEWL treasurer, Julia Hwang, TEWL member, Kent Chiang and officials from Kota Kinabalu City Hall including Benedick Oliver Lidadun, Director of Research and Innovation Department, Fauziahton Ag. Samad, Director of Economic, Tourism and Internatio­nal Relations Bureau and Syron Tunggolou, Director of Complaints and Public Relations Department.
