KOTA KINABALU: Torrential rain for several days recently had caused landslides and flash floods that affected many residents especially in the Penampang area and along the west coast part of the state.

MCA Penampang chief Datuk Francis Goh has taken immediate steps to mobilize the Special Task Force in collaboration with MCA Youth, UPKO and JKKK to provide assistance to the flash flood victims.

The team visited the affected sites in an effort to provide solutions to prevent further landslide by handing out canvases at the locations within the Penampang district.

“Canvasses act as temporary reinforcement and will be used to cover the exposed earth to prevent further landslide into the roads and their homes,” said Francis.

The villages affected by the flash floods were Kg. Nosoob Baru, Kg. Kobusak, Kg. Koidupan and Kg. Susuon. Francis added.

“The team also assisted in clearing the blocked drains, cutting and removing collapsed trees, earth from the villages. The villagers also appealed for gravity pipes as the existing ones were damaged and broken by the floods.”

Francis and Village Development and Security Committee chairman, Carfester Makujin were present to inspect the site and give out the canvases to the victims.

Also present during the joint flood relief aid were MCA Youth chief, Danny Wong and Datuk William Sampil, PPM Moyog with the MCA Youth members.
