Sabah tennis ace Christian Chin shares knowledge with juniors

-

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah tennis sensation Christian Didier Chin is spending his one-week break playing tennis with local junior players at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex here in Likas.

The 16-year-old national player trained and shared his experience especially those that were gained from playing at national and international championships.

He also showed the juniors what he had learned about various strokes and footwork when training. Also at the session were some local coaches namely Tito Latoja, Shamsuddin Mustamin and William Lo.

Sabah Tennis Association president Johnson Koh said Christian, who trains in Kuala Lumpur, was very kind to spend some of his time and share his experience with the juniors.

“We are thankful to him for spending his time with the juniors here like this. They have looked at to him as their first player to reach great levels in national and international competitions,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Christian is currently ranked 82 in the International Tennis Federation and, although he failed to make an appearance in the US Open Junior Championships, he is quietly aiming a spot in the Australian Junior Open next year.

Koh said Christian, who is also Sabah's first player to make the national team for the Davies Cup, should have no problem getting a ticket to the Australian Open in January.

He hoped Christian would continue to strive for excellence and stay fit and free of any injury.

“To do that he must know his own body needs and limits. Enough sleep is the main criterion,” Koh said.

Meanwhile, it was understood that Tennis Malaysia had recently made a video to raise funds to help with Christian's tennis career.

Koh hoped that the public would come forward and contribute generously.
