Do not criticise devt projects for people — Ramlee

-

SEMPORNA: Opposition leaders were reminded not to mislead the people by criticising development projects implemented by the government for the benefit of the people.

Assistant Minister of Finance Datuk Ramlee Marhaban said raising the ugly side of a development project involving the market in Semporna only showed their stupidity.

“The market is now in the process of hiring a contractor and its construction will begin in early October.”

Ramlee said this in reply to a statement by Jimmy Wong, DAP Sabah advisor, who questioned the inefficient action of the Semporna District Council to close the fish market without providing a new site.

According to Ramlee, who is also the Bugaya assemblyman, the absence of a place for traders was not because the government was not concerned about the traders, but the efforts to upgrade the market was currently being undertaken.

He said they applied for the project even if it was not listed in the 2017 budget as they were concerned about problems faced by the traders as well as to provide a better environment for them.

“The opposition should come later and see the signboard and he (Jimmy Wong) does not need to be a busybody or be an ungrateful person as this project is for the people,” he said.

Prior to that, Ramlee when met after distributing zinc sheets at a district voting centre (PDM) for the people, said the government was always aware of the needs of the people.

Ramlee said he was aware that many houses in Semporna were in a bad condition, and that was why he had applied for such contribution for the people.

He said the contribution from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak would certainly ease the burden of the people and be appreciated by them.
