Silam is still Umno's stronghold – Wanita chief

-

LAHAD DATU: Silam will remain a ‘white area’ or Barisan Nasional (BN) and Umno’s stronghold in the upcoming general election.

Silam Wanita Umno chief Mizma Appehdullah said based on a census conducted by Wanita Umno Jalinan Rakyat (JR), BN and Umno were still favoured by the people.

“Based on the census that was conducted on 70 per cent of the voters in this area, it was found that they are rooting for Umno and BN.

“This is good feedback. However, we must continue to work hard to ensure their support and votes go to BN and Umno,” she said.

According to Mizma, Wanita Umno through 1,800 members of JR, are currently in efforts to boost their movement.

She said they were targeting to visit at least one district voting centre a week to check on the machinery as well as to get feedback and any issues faced by the people.

Meanwhile, Mizma also said Silam Umno, including Wanita Umno, were facing challenges in explaining to the people who were still confused with the position of Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal, who is no longer an Umno member.

However, she said this challenge could be addressed once they understand the situation.

“I am confident that people will return to the right path and continue to support Umno,” she said.

Earlier Mizma, at the Silam Wanita Umno delegates meeting on Saturday said Wanita Silam would continue to work hard to support the leadership.

She said Wanita Silam would always be committed in serving the people in various aspects, including education.

“Education is the key to success. We (Wanita Silam) will continue to assist the children, especially in Silam to get better education,” she said.

Mizma, representing more than 2,000 delegates, also expressed her undivided support towards Umno president Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, Sabah Umno Liaison chairman Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman and Silam Umno head Datuk Mohd Yusof Apdal.
