Council urged to monitor affordable rental housing
TAWAU: The Umno Youth here has called on the Tawau Municipal Council (TMC) to form a committee to monitor the Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) as some of the housing units are said to have been sublet out to others by the original tenants.
Its chief, Arifin Kasim, said the youth movement had heard complaints from the residents of Semarak and Mile 8 Apas RMR and hoped that TMC would look into the matter as it would burden the ‘second’ person renting the place if the allegations were true.
He said it was very pitiful to see others having to pay a higher rent when the RMR is meant for those who cannot afford to own a house.
Arifin said this when met after the Tawau Umno Youth delegates meeting yesterday.
Meanwhile, special task officer to the prime minister, Datuk Rizal Mansor in his speech when officiating at the function reminded the Tawau Umno Youth that it is the members’ responsibility to defend the prime minister who has been targeted by the opposition.
Rizal had to replace Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Sri Reezal Merican Naina Merican who could not make it for the opening of the Youth and Puteri Umno Tawau delegates meeting yesterday.
“The community like sensational news and the opposition want the people and Umno members to hate the prime minister,” he said.
He said before the general election, there will be many scandals committed by the opposition that will be revealed and advised members not to be influenced by the antiSemenanjung sentiment that is being played by the opposition.
A total of 320 Tawau Umno Youth members and 20 youth leaders from Semenanjung attended the Tawau Youth Representative Conference held at a leading hotel here yesterday.
