Nikon partners with Shopee in enhancing visual content
KUALA LUMPUR: The phrase ‘you eat with your eyes first’ rings true not only in the world of culinary but also in the fast developing world of e-commerce.
Given that the senses of touch, taste and smell are suspended in the online retail setting, it is no surprise that consumers must rely heavily on visual and audio cues to experience products online.
It is for this reason, Nikon (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd recently teamed up with Shopee – the largest e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, in putting together a photography workshop to educate and equip its sellers with the skills to take better photographs for the benefit of their businesses.
“The world of photography is so flexible in that it is not confined to one genre, style or purpose. Whether it serves as art for entertainment purposes or used as a value-added boost for businesses, the boundaries of photography certainly knows no limits”, said Nikon (Malaysia) managing director David Ng.
“With the fast proliferation of e-commerce platforms and changing consumer purchase habits, it is highly important for businesses to maintain a competitive edge by offering products that are not only functional but also visually appealing. As such, photography definitely plays a big role in the business realm and not merely as a hobby. With that, Nikon Malaysia is always on the lookout for opportunities to partner with businesses in conducting workshops like these in which business operators can leverage on these added skills to boost their operations,” added Ng,
Helmed by veteran photographer Kelvin Chan, the workshop gave invaluable insight to Shopee’s seller community with the sharing of tips and tricks to mastering product photography. Kelvin carries with him a wealth of experience as not only has he made a name for himself in commercial photography, he is also the director of an international advertising agency studio.
As a Nikon Professional Services (NPS) member, he also actively conducts photography workshops and regularly organises travel photography excursions.
Touching on the topic of product photography, Kelvin shared that, “Without the presence of a physical store for shoppers to experience the products, it is highly important for online businesses to enrich customer experiences with powerful or enticing visual content as that could make or break a customer’s decision”.
Further adding to his statement, Kelvin expressed that strong product imagery could potentially prompt shoppers to engage, convert and hopefully form a preference for a brand or online retailer. The workshop was organised as part of the Shopee University initiative which is a dedicated workshop for those keen to learn more about selling on an e-commerce platform and master the art of selling with Shopee.
