Abdulamin first Sabahan appointed MACC director
LABUAN: Abdulamin Abdillah has become the first Sabahan to be appointed a director of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) which has become the nemesis of the corrupt in the country.
Effective Feb 1 this year, the assistant commissioner has been appointed director of the Labuan MACC, a post which he describes as an honour to him and Sabah in general.
Having served in the MACC (formerly known as the AntiCorruption Agency) in various positions for over two decades since 1998, Abdulamin, 52, said the appointment as a director of the commission did not feature in his wildest dreams.
"I never imagined I will be holding the post of director in this high integrity commission. It is the first government agency I stepped foot in as a civil servant.
"I chose this (MACC) due to my passion in enforcement (work), and I feel I can contribute, and thanks Allah SWT, my job application was successful, and was ordered to undergo Basic Cadet Training at the Police Training Centre in Kuala Lumpur," he told Bernama in an interview yesterday.
Upon completion of the training, Abdulamin was posted in Labuan in 1998, and held the post of investigative officer (KR7). Four years later, he was promoted senior investigative officer (KR22) and assistant superintendent (KR29) via promotion by appointment [KPSL] in 2003.
Four years later, he was transferred to Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan and promoted as assistant investigative officer (KR32) a year later, and acting branch head (KR41) the same year and branch head (KR44) the following year.
"I must be thankful to our superior, the government, for giving us (Sabahans) the chance to lead a federal agency.
"A number of Sabahans are now directors of many federal government agencies, and they have been appointed due to merit, with academic qualifications, experience, dedication and commitment,” he said, adding that his appointment was purely recognition of the high commitment and integrity of being a civil servant.
Abdulamin received tertiary education only in 2003 after five years in the government service.

He received his Bachelor in Communication degree from Universiti Putra Malaysia and Masters in Social Science (Corruption Studies) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 2014 under the Public Service Department full scholarship.
To be able to be well-versed in the construction field for investigation purposes, he took up an engineering programme at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and was awarded Certificate in Construction Engineering.
Abdulamin is also MACC Certified Integrity Officer.
“After graduating from UKM in 2013, I was posted to the Putrajaya MACC with the rank of assistant director-cumstate chief investigator before being transferred to the MACC Temerloh branch in Pahang, the following year as its head,” he said.
Subsequently, dedication and outstanding performance saw Abdulamin promoted to assistant commissioner and posted to Perak as MACC Taiping branch head (2014-2016) and transferred to Selangor as inspection and negotiation unit head (2016-Jan 2017) before his current posting as Labuan director.
