Institut Sinaran achieves record-breaking passes

KOTA KINABALU: Institut Sinaran has an outstandin­g history of producing top scorers in the Cambridge Internatio­nal A-Level Examinatio­ns.

The results of the June 2017 Cambridge A Level saw a soaring increase in quality and quantity for the institute where out of the 117 students who had sat for the A Level examinatio­n, 113 (96.6%) recorded at least a pass for two subjects, which entitles students a one-step eligibilit­y towards university entry.

A record-breaking total of 22 students (18.8%) scored straight A’s with five obtaining the maximum grade of four subjects with A*, nine obtained grades of four subjects with A* and A, eight obtained all three subjects taken with grades A* and A, while another 13 students obtained Grade A in at least three subjects.

Altogether there are 35 students (29.9%) with grades A* to B and 72% of the students passed all their subjects with Grade A* to C, whereas 48.7% passed with a least 1 A.

A comparativ­e analysis for A Level results for the last five years of Institut Sinaran also showed that in terms of quality, especially the number of grades A and B, has improved across the board for all subjects.

Out of the nine subjects offered, Accounting, Business, Law and Physic obtained 100% passes and the other five subjects’ passing percentage range from 92.3% to 96.7%.

The five students who obtained grades of A* in 4 subjects are Ian Chung Ka Hien, Jeremy Lau Ngee Hing, Josephine Chee Qiou Xing, Lexzion Ben Chung Tzin Vui and Wong Shuen Wen.

Those who obtained all four subjects with grades A* and A are Aaron Anthony Obon, Frederick Wong Kui Siung, Jasmine Chuah Jin Mei, Mak Carlsson, Nathaniel Leong Jenn Kwang, Netta Lee Hui Ying, Ng Yen Hui, Kimberly Louise Tam Qing Yee, and Vernie Soh Wen Yee.

Students who obtained all three subjects with at least A grade are Ellen Chai Yung Shen, Laurena Wong Gui Jin, Liau Wei Jet, Melissa Sia Tze Yen, Samuel Soon Yi Hou, Sharmine Chia Siau Shuen, Sharon Ng and Sophia Lim Yii Shin.

The other 13 students who obtained at least A grade for three subjects out of the four subjects taken are Tai Chinq Ling, Chee Chea Kit, Chong Jing Wen, Jason Thien Yong Heng, Juliana Yasha, Kong Yen Hua, Liau Wei Jet, Sally Lim Jia Hui, Sarah Lin Sy Yan, Siew Wei Ching, Tay Yi Jiun, Thai Wan Shin Jona and Valerie Janette Soo Xin Ying.

The CEO of Institut Sinaran, Marie Yong, was delighted for the students and their parents. She said the two most important contributi­ng factors for this remarkable outcome were the students’ real desire to excel and they were well taught by highly committed lecturers.

“It is important to strive for continuous improvemen­t in our results and it’s great to see this positive trend in our achievemen­t profile,” she said in a statement yesterday.

The A- level achievemen­t reinforces Institut Sinaran’s image as a leading pre-university centre in East Malaysia and the largest centre for Cambridge GCE A-Level in Sabah.

The 18-month Cambridge A Level Programme in Institut Sinaran not only prepares the students with a strong academic foundation to further their higher education, but through its holistic approach via a wide range of extra-curricular and leadership training activities, they also prepare the students well for their future endeavours.

Institut Sinaran is a Sabah-based higher institutio­n of education, establishe­d 30 years ago.

It welcomes students to study in either one of the three programmes offered for the January 2018 intake: Cambridge GCE A-Level, Diploma in Commerce and Foundation in Science.

Financial aid and scholarshi­ps are available for students, and they are allowed direct entry into various local and internatio­nal universiti­es such as the UK and Australian universiti­es with credit transfers where applicable after they have completed their programmes.
