KK Music Camp and String Music Festival Aug 26-28

KOTA KINABALU: The Jesselton Philharmon­ic Orchestra (JPO) will be presenting the first edition of the Kota Kinabalu Music Camp (KKMC) and the fifth edition of the Kota Kinabalu String Music Festival (KKSMF), over three days from the August 26 until 28, 2017.

Due to the overwhelmi­ng response and success of the previous string music festivals, the JPO has taken the initiative to combine the fifth edition Kota Kinabalu String Music Camp and a favoured number of concert band members into the first edition of the Kota Kinabalu Music Camp this year, in its effort to continue its mission of enriching the musical landscape of Kota Kinabalu, it said in a statement here yesterday.

“JPO would like to warmly thank our patron for their generous support and financial assistance. We would also like to thank University Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Sabah Cultural and Arts Department (JKKNS), Prelude Music Sdn Bhd and our invited tutors from around Malaysia, Ng Sie Ai, Ng Huck Aik, Ng Lip Sheng and Yau Yann Zhe.”

According to the statement, the venue of the music camp will be at UMS.

JPO have invited four profession­al musicians from all around Malaysia to tutor the program. They are Ng Sie Ai, a music lecturer of University Malaysia Sarawak; a violinist, Ng Huck Aik, a trombonist from Istana Budaya, Ng Lip Sheng; a percussion­ist from Malaysia Philharmon­ic Youth Orchestra, and Yau Yann Zhe, a trumpet lecturer at Malborough College Malaysia.

They will all be performing together with JPO members in the lunchtime concert on the first day of the camp.

Among the groups to participat­e are members, interns and students of the Jesselton Philharmon­ic Orchestra, Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School String Ensemble, Kian Kok String Orchestra and Concert Band, JPO Training Orchestra, Jesselton String Program, Sabah Institute of Art, UMS and The Tabernacle of Praise.

The first Lunchtime Concert, featuring JPO members and guests tutors, will be on August 26, 2017 at the Recital Hall, Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Heritage, UMS starting at 12 pm. Admission is free.

The second Lunchtime Concert, featuring Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School String Ensemble, Kian Kok String Orchestra and Concert Band, JPO interns and participan­ts of the camp, will be on August 27, 2017 also at the Recital Hall, Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Heritage, UMS starting at 12 pm. Admission is free.

The third Finale Concert, featuring product of camp, string ensemble, concert band and full orchestra, will be on August 28, 2017 also at the Recital Hall, Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Heritage, UMS starting at 8 pm. Admission is free.

This is a performanc­e extravagan­za that is free for the public to attend and features all of the participat­ing groups demonstrat­ing some of the best of what is learned and offered at KKMC.

Everyone is welcome to watch any of the programs that are arranged at the venue. There will be no fee charged.
