25 vehicles, 12 motorcycle­s in Upper Interior Kembara Merdeka Negaraku convoy

KENINGAU: Twenty five four wheel drive vehicles and 12 motorcycle­s made up the convoy for the Upper Interior Konvoi Kembara Merdeka Negaraku event organized by the Informatio­n Department which ended here on Wednesday.

The convoy began on August 22 and ended on Wednesday with 90 participan­ts from various state and federal government department­s and agencies, stopping at several villages and schools in Keningau, Tenom, Nabawan and Tambunan districts.

District informatio­n officer, Hendry Nurdin, told The Borneo Post yesterday that, among others, the purpose of the convoy was to make the people aware to wave the Jalur Gemilang or the Malaysian flag all the time to signify loyalty and love for the country.

The waving of the flag, he said, should not be seasonal or only done in August. Instead, every Malaysian should feel proud to always fly Malaysian flag in their premises or residence at all times.

“The Informatio­n Department’s annual activities are aimed at enhancing the celebratio­n of independen­ce month this year,” he said.

The convoy which began on August 22 was flagged off by assistant district officer, Celestine Jetony, at the Keningau Sports Complex. The convoy then moved to SJKC Yuk Yin, SM St Francis Xavier, SK Banjar, Kampung Banjar, Kauran, Tuarid Taud, Toboh Laut, Kota Ayangan, SMK Keningau II, Bingkor town, Kampung Merampong in Keningau district.

“The convoy also stopped at Kampung Tikolod, Tambunan town, Kampung Pomotodon and Kampung Sinsuran in Tambunan District, and on to Sook, SMK Sook, SK Sook, Nabawan, SMK Sapulut, SMK Nabawan II in Nabawan area and then to Kampung Pulong, Tenom and Giatmara in Tenom district,” he said.
