SANDAKAN: A total of 11,638 employers here have registered with the Social Security Organisation (Socso) and 7,887 of them are active employers for the period between January 2016 and July this year.

During the same period, the Socso Sandakan issued compounds to a total of 284 employers for failing to register their business, failing to register workers with Socso and delay in reporting accidents.

According to a Socso Board member, Alan Khoo Choom Kwong, Socso Sandakan had made a total of RM1,002,660.75 Socso benefit payments including medical benefits and Spare Payments between January 2016 and July this year.

“A total of 391 paid cases include temporary disablement benefit, permanent disablement benefit, dependent benefit, invalidity pensioner benefit, retirement pension and corpse management benefit (Faedah Pengurusan Mayat).

“Meanwhile, Sosco also had bridging social security protection gap by allowing self-employed taxi drivers to enjoy benefit from the Socso scheme under the Self-Employment Work Scheme Benefits (SBKPS) that was enforced on recent June 1.

“In the meantime, Socso will implement a job retrenchment scheme (retrenched workers due to a bankrupt employer) and is expected to be implemented in January 2018.

“This proves that Socso is committed to implementing social responsibility to society in Malaysia,” he said at the Socso reaching out programme held at Gloria Plaza Hotel, yesterday.

Alan said in an effort to disseminate Socso’s role and responsibility to its grassroots, Socso Sandakan had organised and implemented several programmes, particularly for employees and employers.

He added that the programme would provide exposure and information to employers, workers and the community on the role of Socso and the employer’s responsibility as well as the rights of workers under the Worker Social Security Act 1969.
