KOTA KINABALU: Ten winners were selected throughout the State to participate in the Petron Hypermarket Sweep contest.

The winners, selected through a lucky draw method, were yesterday put through the Hypermarket Sweep challenge at Giant City Mall here.

Each winner and together with three other family members were given the opportunity to fill up two grocery carts with as many retail items as possible in a given time frame.

The top five winners took home groceries worth RM3,000 upon completing the challenge, while the remaining five each received RM2,500 worth of groceries. However, only eight of the winners participated in yesterday’s challenge.

One of the main prize winners Asri Ramang, 39, initially did not believe his victory was true when contacted by Petron representatives.

“At first, I was sceptical for fear of being deceived but my mind was put to ease after the representative asked me to contact the number on the back of the Petron card.

“I’m grateful for being lucky enough to be one of the main prize winners with goodies worth RM3,000,” he said when met by the media.

Another winner, 28-yearold Patrice Saidi, similarly expressed surprise but revealed that she quickly came up with a strategy to make the most of the experience.

“Around August 25, my husband and I came to this Giant hypermarket to survey the items we could take, prices and where they’re stored so that it would be easier for us to grab these items in the given time during the challenge,” she said.

Petron marketing manager Danny Chen said the winners were selected through the participation of their lucky draws.

“Customers who filled up at least RM50 worth of petrol at Petron were eligible for the lucky draw.

“This is the second time we organised this challenge in Sabah, but we worked with a different supermarket this time.

“The response to this contest has been very good, and due to that we are able to organise it in other locations nationwide, namely Selangor, Johor, Penang and Kuantan,” he said.

Also present was GCH Retail (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd general manager Haznida Zainal Abidin.
